The Homestead at dusk

About Us

A historic homestead on the banks of the Avon, reborn as a place to gather, dine and celebrate.

A heritage venue, reopened

This beautiful historic venue reopened in December 2016 and welcomed the public for events and dining. Christchurch City Council undertook a two-year, $3.2m rebuild and strengthening project so the delightful Mona Vale Homestead could once again open its doors to the public. Today the gracious Victorian building is once more resplendent in her heritage best, operating again as a wedding, special occasions, events and meeting venue.

Mona Vale in an early period

Our Story

The land initially belonged to the Deans brothers, whose homestead was Riccarton House in Riccarton. From the mill pond on the Avon to Annie Townend’s fernery and the gardens we know today, Mona Vale’s history runs deep.
